Weekly Writing Prompt #22
You don't have to consider yourself a "writer" to write with us.
The Weekly Cycle
Here’s how each week moves, from writing to publication. You are invited to join us just for the writing (inner voice activation) or for the full arc:
When the prompt drops: write
Then type/transcribe
Friday, by 10:00 AM: submit
Submit this week’s writing for publication consideration here.
Sunday: weekly folio publishes
ATB Press publishes a small selection of writings from this same week — voices from different countries, languages, and inner landscapes, side by side.
Ok, it’s time to go in…
Pen’s up!
How to Use Today’s Prompt (ATB Method)
Abre Tu Boca is about finding and flexing the power of your inner voice through the written and spoken word. The techniques we use here are meant to activate the inner voice so that you can follow it directly to the page.
We begin with a writing prompt.
The prompt knocks on the door of the subconscious. When you read it, something inside you gets up to answer, and the two begin a conversation. You simply record it on the paper.
1. Prepare your space
Sit down with:
Your notebook/paper
Two pens (always a backup)
The prompt image below (do not preview before you write)
Ten quiet, uninterrupted minutes
Write by hand. Hand-to-page draws the writing from the body, where your stories live.
2. Begin writing immediately
The prompt is the beginning of a sentence.
You can:
Write it at the top of your page and continue,
Let it appear somewhere else on the page, or
Not write the prompt at all — only let it wake up the writing.
Go with the first thing that comes.
I cannot stress this enough, and it is something that at least one person in circle always needs to be reminded of. It may feel too ordinary, too vulnerable, too obvious — doesn’t matter. That is the thing with the message for you. Maybe you have to write through all the mundane gunk to clear the pipes so the thing can arrive. Do it. Even if it’s nothing but boring brain chatter, write it down.
If you get stuck, cast the line again:
Write the prompt again — maybe again and again — until something hooks.
The prompt is now provided in English and Spanish. Write in your native language — in the language of you inner voice. (As our community grows, more languages will be provided.)
3. Write for ten minutes
No timer alarm — just write the end time at the top of your page.
Keep the pen moving without thinking, without distraction.
Note: The doorway into the weekly prompt opens only to paid members — those choosing to step into the practice with us. If you’d like to write with us every Wednesday, you can join for $9/month or $99/year (or as a Founding Member with added benefits).
